Devoted to preserving the essence of Kamele Ngoni music, crafts, and the spiritual origins of this ancient art, Divine Strings collaborates with artisans and farmers from West Africa, particularly Ghana, weaving together the threads of tradition to craft exquisite 12-stringed Kamele Ngonis.
Each Kamele Ngoni is a labor of love, taking almost 1 year for the gourds to grow to the perfect size and additional time for them to naturally dry. These organic gourds are then carefully cut, cleaned, and prepared, with goat skin stretched over them and secured with upholstery tacks. Finishing touches are added using Mazonia hardwood neck and bamboo pieces, while the use of fishing line strings, a mix of fluorocarbon and monofilament nylon, ensures exceptional durability and exquisite tonality.
With its pentatonic tuning, the Kamale Ngoni offers a friendly and effortless playing experience, inviting you to create harmonious melodies with ease. Whether engaging in personal sound meditations under the starry sky or seeking a break from the mundane, this instrument is a sublime companion. The Kamale Ngoni is designed to accompany you as you weave stories and songs, reconnecting with your musical roots, and honoring the profound and timeless musical legacy of our African ancestors.
When you purchase one of our instruments, you contribute to preserving a treasured craft, the rich tapestry of African heritage, and the harmonious bond between humanity and nature. In addition, you are supporting the artisans and families in Ghana, providing them with the vital support to carry on their ancestral craft. Together, we nurture a shared mission of cultivating culture, fostering traditions, and honoring the deep-rooted history that resonates through every instrument created.
The Kamele Ngoni has 12 strings with a pentatonic scale of D minor. This is the traditional West African scale used a lot in Traditional Burkina folk songs as well as Wassolou funk roots music
