Through the power of our voices, hands, and hearts, we will rediscover our inner nature through singing African songs that carry the essence of ritual, reclamation, and the celebration of the feminine.

African chanting and drumming combines music and mantra – words and sounds that vibrate at the highest level of awareness. This practice is an effortless and joyful way to meditate, accessing our deep feminine intuition, and reminding us of our resilience as women.
Almost a decade ago, my journey to West Africa immersed me in the rich history of women deeply connected to their ancient rituals. Venturing into small villages, I delved into the teachings of West African music, dance, culture, and history. I had the privilege of learning from women of various tribes, absorbing their traditions, and studying the rhythms to accompany the chants.
Connecting with African rhythms has changed my life in ways I could not have imagined. The Ngoni has supported the healing of my heart and voice, and the calabash has been essential for my healing of infertility and journey of giving birth to three healthy boys.
In this course we will journey through African chants and songs and learn the history and ancient practices of the tribes from which they come. We will sit in musical meditation and give space for our deeper selves to unfold.

What is a Calabash Drum?
The calabash drum is a traditional African percussion instrument made from a dried, hollowed-out gourd, typically of the calabash tree. Its shape resembles the female form and is symbolic of womanhood and fertility in many West African cultures. The calabash drum is used in rituals and ceremonies to honor and celebrate various life events, including the transition of girls into womanhood.

Throughout the course, we will explore different facets of our feminine experience and the different rhythms of our cyclical nature through songs, stories and meaningful rituals of ancient Africa.
